FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEKory Meyerink Named Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association SANDY, Utah – July 26, 2002. Upon learning the news, ProGenealogist’s President, Natalie Cottrill, remarked, “I knew that Kory’s skill and experience had already helped many, when I asked him to work with ProGenealogists. I’m very pleased for Kory because this award gives him well-earned public recognition for his contributions to the field.” Meyerink is the second FUGA affiliated with ProGenealogists, which also includes four Fellows of the American Society of Genealogists (FASG) among its associates. His responsibilities include fostering business alliances, managing research projects, and researching difficult immigrant, German and United States cases. Meyerink is the editor and chief author of Ancestry’s award-winning Printed Sources (an ALA “Best Reference” Book) as well as a contributor to Ancestry magazine. In addition to his research with ProGenealogists, he currently writes an immigration column and feature articles for Heritage Quest, and articles for Everton’s Family History Magazine. He is well known for his lectures at national conferences, including those held by the National Genealogical Society, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, and GENTECH. Always interested in promoting genealogical education, Meyerink serves as adjunct faculty for Brigham Young University. He founded the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy in 1996 and is serving as its director again in 2003. As a volunteer, he is a commissioner for the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. According to Russell Lynch, President of UGA, Meyerink’s past service as President of the association, his authorship of major reference works and articles, and as his teaching and volunteer service to genealogical organizations readily qualify him for this award. Meyerink described the tribute as “Unexpected. I have always believed in doing my best, as well as being involved in serving the genealogical community, for that is where the community receives its strength. It is an honor to be classed with the past recipients of this award. To receive it this year, along with Tony Burroughs, is indeed a special privilege.” ProGenealogists, a privately held Utah corporation, is one of the nation’s premier genealogical research firms, with offices in Sandy, Utah.
